Our School
is located in La Herradura
in Southern Spain on the beaches. The area is called “Costa Tropical”
(for good reasons!) and is 5 KM from the resort town of Almunecar, 7 Km.
from Nerja, 80 Km from Málaga, and 85 Km from Granada.
It
is a small village situated in a large beautiful bay, with over a mile
of beaches. In Spanish La Herrudaura means ‘horse shoe’
(very appropriate!), and this is exactly what the bay looks like as it
is enclosed by two huge rocky points at either end.
Originally it was a
fishing village, but now it has grown and become an attractive tourism
location, with its popular beaches. One of the charms is that it
attracts mainly Spanish tourists, so it is easy to practise your Spanish
and you don’t feel like you are part of the ‘invading foreign masses’
that can occur in other parts of Southern Spain.
The long beach offers
numerous facilities of practicing aquatic sports, paragliding, tennis
and also other mountain sport whole year around. This area is also known
to me one of Spain’s best Diving locations. With a number of sheltered
bays there is always a good place to dive, and usually very good
visibility, and good fish life.
La Herradura
also has a large number of “Chiringuitos” ( typical beach
restaurants) where you can taste the gastronomic specialties of this
area of Spain.
La Herradura has a
subtropical climate and it has an average of 320 sunny days and only 20
rainy days per year. This is the place to come to feel the sun, practise
your Spanish and get involved in outdoor activities!
